The Castleton Festival also has weekend performances that are held in Lorin Maazeel’s’ home. He is the conductor of the performances and his home is situated on a beautiful and large–550 acre property. Tickets can be ordered online. Castleton Farms is located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains—an area known for Civil War history, wineries, rolling hills and forests and ancient rocks.

The Glass House Winery

Or, you may want to explore one of Virginia’s 180 wineries. One of the finest wineries in this area is the Glass House Winery near Charlottesville. Besides the delicious wines, you can view beautiful art work by Michelle Sanders, who is the owner and “Chocolate Extraordinare”—who also on occasion gives a history of the young winery. The winery is a beautiful place to visit–with its rows of grapevines overlooking a “small geese populated lake with a backdrop of Buck Mountain.” Or, take your family out for a fun game of bowling at the many affordable and fun bowling centers with bowling pro shop in Richmond.
